Mobile App Development: Trends in 2016

Innovation in mobile application design and development has been the key for business success since the starting point of revolution in mobile world in 2008 as changes has been mainly driven by new gadgets such as Google Glass, Apple Watch, different types of fitness trackers and wearables, the Internet of Things and cloud technologies. That is why our NybleCraft team holds the view that it is desirable for developers to consider the challenges that can be faced ahead.

1. Enterprise Apps.

Worldwide Smartphone Sales Growth has lead to the demand for suitable mobile applications. With more than 1.5 million apps in Google Play Store or Apple’s App Store, most of them are directed towards improving the performance of enterprises. And there is a simple explanation to such a phenomenon as businesses are capable of paying more for a tool that drives revenue. More than 35% of large enterprises has developed their own mobile app development platforms which is like to result in mobile app demand outgrowing the capacity of IT companies to deliver.

#2. Mobile Banking and M-Commerce.

19% of commercial sales come either through a smartphone or tablet. What is more, with the use of mobile phones to become as smart as using cards while shopping; analysts predict this trend to continue in the upcoming years – irrespective of whether it involves transferring money or shopping online. Hence developers focus more on developing mobile apps that can do transactions simply using credit cards.

#3. The Internet of Things.

There are a lot of reasons why the Internet of Things (IoT) has been all over the news. Firstly, the increase in people depending on multiple devices has lead to the popularity of IoT. The apps get established as you integrate them over a variety of connected devices. The global IoT market is projected to grow at a compounded annual growth rate of 32% by 2019 and as such the opportunity for developers will also scale up.

#4. High Security in Apps.

Compliance to standards, safety and high security still remains the area of concern since the birth of the Internet. It is critical that people will pay special attention to safety of data as information on bank data and SSN, on personal life and content can be accessed by hackers. There are information gaps in every other mobile app that is being created and hackers find it pleasurable to break through into these apps and get their hands on information that is highly sensitive. It is in your hands to ensure that your apps are highly secure and there exists no such loopholes where hackers can exercise their control and ruin everything.

#5. Focus on the Swift Programming Language and Beacon Technology for iOS.

Apple has come up with a new programming language called Swift. It is designed as both an application language and a systems language. Also, built on the modern compiler infrastructure, this language offers most app developers the opportunity to write reliable code right from the start. As per the report published in Apple Insider, Swift was made available as part of the Xcode tools.

This report further indicated that Apple’s CEO, Tim Cook, claimed that this set of tools was downloaded more than 11 million times in the first month alone. Now, that demand has grown ever since and there are speculations that this programming language will become open source at some time in the future.A good programming language that is still relatively new to the world is very much in demand. The iOS developers are gearing up to gain an expertise over Swift language so that they can start developing apps for iOS, OS X, watchOS, tvOS, and so on.

Beacon technology is another emerging concept for iOS developers. In fact, it has been rolled out for iOS and is even expected to hit the Android platform soon. This technology helps to merge offline and online differences for the finance, event management and retail sectors. It will continue to give benefits across a range of industrial sectors, including retail, education, entertainment, healthcare, real estate, and hospitality. Thus, mobile app developers have a great opportunity to introduce apps with functionalities that can prove to be of valuable support for beacon technology.
